2015 ROUNDTABLE, DARWIN, 28-29 APRIL
To coincide with the 2015 LGMA National Congress, Local Government: The Value Proposition, in Darwin 30 April-1 May, the Indigenous Employment and Leadership in Local Government – a Two-Way Value Proposition Roundtable will be held in Darwin immediately preceding Congress, from 12pm, 28 April, and continuing through to 29 April at the Vibe Darwin City Waterfront hotel.
The Roundtable will focus on Indigenous employment in remote local governments since they have much higher Indigenous workforce participation percentages than elsewhere in the country, but very few Indigenous local government employees are in senior management or leadership roles. As in previous years, we will also have case studies and personal journeys.
Confirmed speakers so far include The Hon Bess Nungarrayi Price MLA, NT Minister for Local Government and Community Services; and Michael Berto, CEO, Roper Gulf Regional Council, with more to come shortly.

INDIGENOUS EMPLOYMENT IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT ROUNDTABLES
Following the release of the Green Paper in 2010, a National Roundtable on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Employment in Local Government was convened to discuss the issues raised in the Green Paper and to discuss methodologies that can be used by local government to employ more indigenous people. The Roundtable brought together more than 50 key representatives from local government jurisdictions, deferral and state government and indigenous employment sectors. This became the first Roundtable in a series that has taken place across the country. At each Roundtable a number of best practice case studies have been highlighted and a communique has been produced.
"It was a privilege for the City of Fremantle to be able to present its case study, and I have enjoyed, subsequently, looking at some of the other material & presentations that were part of the Roundtable." |
"I am so glad I had the opportunity to attend some of the sessions. Great networking and learnt so much too." |
"It was a pleasure and interesting to be at the roundtable." |
"Thank you for allowing us to be involved. I enjoyed the experience to meet a number of people, also the numerous discussions and available support within your service group." |
