WORKFORCE REFERENCE GROUP
The Workforce Development National Reference Group, initially known as the National Skills Shortage Steering Committee, evolved from the Skills Shortage Forum that LGMA convened in Canberra in 2006. It is not a decision making body per se, but the purpose of the Reference Group is to:
- Advise on the implementation of the Strategy to ensure stakeholder buy‐in and sector relevance;
- Develop and promote coordinated sector‐wide actions to support implementation of strategic priorities in Future‐proofing Local Government: National Workforce Strategy 2013‐2020;
- Negotiate and advocate regarding access to relevant programs and funding opportunities for the implementation of local government skills shortage, workforce planning and development strategies with relevant state, territory and commonwealth agencies;
- Provide a two‐way exchange of information and learnings regarding current national, state and territory local government workforce planning and development initiatives being undertaken to build the sector’s capacity and to address skills shortages; and
- Audit, identify and consider the gaps in the various initiatives being undertaken.
