Research and Consultation

Human Services Training Advisory Council HSTAC is undertaking research on behalf of the national Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in the community services and health workforce and participation in vocational education and training and other relevant higher education in the industries.

This research will build on and update research which was undertaken by HSTAC in 2006 and published in the report: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Participation in Vocational Education and Training Research Report March 2006. The 2006 research informed the development of What’s the Job resource materials later developed by the ISC, which have been well received and Healthy Stories currently under development by the ISC.

This research will contribute to other key CSHISC activities through contribution to the 2011 Environmental Scan, formation of relevant advice to key stakeholders, informing the production of resources, assisting in the articulation of benefits of participation, and providing a foundation for future research and product development.

Comprehensive Indigenous health workforce data, research and initiatives have informed this research work to date. It is apparent that corresponding data for the Indigenous Community Services workforce is not as readily available. Your assistance is sought in an attempt to augment available data sources in order to ensure the Indigenous Community Services Workforce recieves appropriate attention and focus within this body of research.

Even if you don't have all of the exact data available, we would prefer you entered your 'best guess' on workforce, clients and so forth when answering the questions, rather than miss out on your responses altogether. At the end of the survey, you will be asked to indicate your own accuracy rating for the data you have entered and therefore we will get an indication of whether you data is approximate or closer to actual. Some indicative data in this instance will be better than no data at all for the Indigenous Community Services workforce.

The closing date for this survey is 22 October 2010.
